attention by comparison to long term or chronic disabling conditions (Yach, 2006). There are
clear differences in terms of health risk exposure, morbidity and mortality for chronic
conditions such as cardiovascular disease and cancer by sex, race, ethnic group and
socioeconomic status. And we should add people with disabilities to this list due to their
‘thinner’ margin of health (DeJong et al., 2002).
