In each case the origins, strengths, basic organization, uniforms, flags, and weapons are described as fully as possible within the limitations of surviving manuscripts and illustrations which the author, himself a history lecturer, has delved deeply to discover. The book thus opens up a completely new aspect of one of the most significant periods of Western history—the Renaissance.
